Visualization of polysemy in a Greek lexicon of the New Testament
Applicant | Dr. Joost Zwarts |
Developer | Dr. Berit Janssen |
DH lab developer Berit Janssen and semanticist Joost Zwarts built an interactive visualization of how words in the Greek New Testament can have extended (figurative, metaphorical) meanings on top of their basic meanings. It uses information from the Louw & Nida lexicon, that is based on semantic domains. Starting with a circle of general semantic domains, a user can zoom in, step by step, on clusters of words that might have a common figurative meaning. This is the first step towards a more sophisticated visualization of the metaphorical mappings of the New Testament.
